Norwegian Pension funds become liable to taxation

The Norwegian 2019 National Budget was out yesterday, and with it a rather extensive collection of changes touching on asset management, pensions and insurance. A major change of potential interest to our clients is that Norwegian life insurance companies and pension funds become effectively subject to taxation.

From January 1st 2019, Norwegian pension funds will meet greatly increased capital requirements, similar to the Solvency II rules. Enterprises with pension funds may end up with a considerable debt not currently shown in the accounts, and which presumably are unknown to most investors.
